The World of Paul Slickey: A Comedy of Manners with Music. First edition, first impression, inscribed by the author on the title page: "To Clive Hirschhorn, John Osbourne". Paul Slickey was Osbourne's first and only musical. Although it was initially received poorly, it later gained admiration amongst critics: in 1964, George Wellwarth wrote that "Commercially it has been Osborne's least successful play; artistically it is his best" (Wellwarth, p. 228).Provenance: Clive Hirschhorn (b. 1940), the film and theatre critic for the Sunday Express for over three decades, with his 1959 ownership inscription on the front pastedown.
