Programme for the theatrical adaptation of Vile Bodies staged at the Arts Theatre Club, October 1931. A well-preserved piece of ephemera from the first stage adaptation of Vile Bodies. The private production at the Arts Theatre Club was scripted by H. Dennis Bradley, who is listed on the programme under the pseudonym "Arthur Boscastle". Lord Cromer, the Lord Chamberlain, attended and enjoyed one of the performances but refused to license it without significant revisions.Presented by Lionel Barton, the production opened on Thursday 8 October and ended its run ten days later. In addition to the expected cast list, the programme includes details of the companies responsible for loaning costumes, providing furniture and grand pianos, and selling champagne and cigarettes.
