£2,000 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books · No longer available

A beautiful print from the earlier issue of Webber's Views in the South Seas. The Resolution and Discovery anchored off Krakatoa on their journey home from Hawai'i following Cook's death. The crew found two springs, one with fresh water and one with hot. They described the natives as 'friendly' and Webber made several sketches. Soft ground etching, with hand-colouring, 405 x 310mm (trimmed to plate mark), closed tear expertly repaired, mounted. Beddie, 1871.
