The Tempest. Signed limited edition, number 480 of 500 copies signed by the artist. "Dulac can be considered a perfect illustrator for Shakespeare because of his tendency always to mix in with serious pictures some humorous ones, just as Shakespeare inserted scenes of comic relief between his serious ones" (Hughey). The Tempest was Dulac's second significant gift book. Alongside his Arabian Nights (1907) and Rubáiyát (1909) they "confirmed Dulac to be a direct challenger in the illustrated gift book market to the work of Arthur Rackham" (ODNB).An advertisement for the 1919 reissue of the book in The Bookman called Dulac's edition one of "the most beautiful gift-books of modern times, representing the highest standard in the art of Colour Reproduction and Bookmaking".
