Mutations of the Phoenix. First edition, first impression, one of 200 copies printed, in a handmade binding by Vanessa Bell. This is a variant issue bound in full marbled paper, rather than the usual red cloth-backed marbled paper. The Hogarth Press commissioned Bell to do 300 covers for this publication, although only 200 were published. In a letter to her sister dated March 1923, Woolf wrote: "I should like to come and put the colours on under your direction, as I said. What did you think of the marbling colours?" (Letters, pp. 19-20).
