Alexander Bryson (1802-69) qualified as a doctor in 1827 and enlisted in the navy (as assistant surgeon) the same year. He had already compiled a Report on the Diseases of the African Station , which had a restricted circulation. This publication was to make the information more widely available to the public and also to refute some of the “mis-statements and unwarrantable assumptions” made by Sir William Pym. However, Bryson also discusses the outbreaks of yellow fever in 1823 and 1829, specifically relating to Fernando Po, Freetown, the Gambia, and elsewhere. Uncommon. We locate ten copies in libraries.
