Four Plays for Dancers. First edition, first impression. Each play, "At The Hawks' Well", "The Only Jealousy Of Emer", "The Dreaming Of The Bones", and "Calvary", utilizes dance to create a spiritual experience. The illustrator Edmund Dulac, a lifelong friend of Yeats, designed the scenery and costumes for "At The Hawk's Well", composed the incidental music, and took part in its premier in 1916.Provenance: Walter A. Donnelly (1900-1981), the husband to the poet and essayist Dorothy Marie Donnelly (1903-1994),with his large decorative bookplate. Walter was editor at the University of Michigan Press and the couple's home was a literary salon, often visited by those lecturing at the university, including Dylan Thomas, Robert Hayden, and John Heath-Stubbs. The majority of the Donnelly's wide-ranging rare book collection was donated to the University of Central Florida Library.
