rare Shanghai imprint Rare. COPAC lists BL and Cambridge only. The first Anglo-Chinese centennial calendar, covering the period 1776-1876. 'Calendars in somewhat similar form have been yearly issued from the press in China; but, as it is doubtful if a complete series of these exists, and as, in the transaction of business, whether official, legal or commercial, between Foreigners and Chinese, and in the study of Chinese History which is now so intimately connected with foreign nations, a knowledge of the corresponding dates is quite necessary' (cfr. Preface). According to Cordier, only 500 copies of this book were printed and most were destroyed during a fire at the printing house 'Chin-Foong' in 1873 First edition. 8vo., [vi], 260, [ii], 17 pp., contemporary black morocco gilt, gilt lettered to upper cover, label of the "Ching Foon" Printing and Bookbinding Office, Szechuan Road, Shanghai, a fine copy.
