Incidents on a journey through Nubia to Darfoor.

£1,875 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books · No longer available

Ensor was engaged in the survey of Wady Milkh or the Inalienable Valley for the proposed line of a railway to Darfoor. Since the reign of Achmat Bokr, Sultan of Darfoor 1682-1722, the Sultans had claimed sole right to use this route, which was anyway regarded as unsafe. This is an account of the adventures the author met on his journey from the second cataract of the Nile, and afterwards at El Fasher, with a description of the country. First edition. 8vo, viii, 225, [iii] pp., original brown cloth gilt, housed in a blue cloth slipcase. A fine copy.
